The Power of a New Year – Wheel of intentions

Setting intentions at the start of the year has always been a powerful process to help me achieve goals, vision, happiness and fulfillment.

After a long year of back to back events and focusing on client needs I have learnt to appreciate the rest and recovery period. It brings good vibes, positive energy and realignment to where I want to be and go. The trick is, I don’t need to spend too much time. It can be done in one afternoon, sit down with a hot tea, play some background music or grab a pen and paper.

It’s my time to dream a little, feel future aspirations, reach for the stars, visualize purpose and set new achievements whilst living in the present moment.

I have been following Kimothy Joy (@kimothy.joy) for some time now, earlier this month she posted her “Wheel of Intentions“. I thought YES!!! It totally resonated with me, the perfect outline to lead me into 2019! I must say I thought about each of the categories for a few days before I sat down and started to put pen to paper.

Money and Career

Money: I have found myself having conversations recently about the importance of multiple income streams. It’s not easy as it can be hard enough keeping up with expectations of one at times. I have seen people in my inner circle rely on one income and it was taken away from them without their control which placed them in financial trouble. Then on the other hand, a few of my other friends have several forms of income and it opens up more possibilities, networks and general information sharing for them.

You may know, I love to think resourcefully and find new opportunities without setting limitations and most of the time we have more than one hat on! Plus there’s a place for everyone in the world to do more than one thing.

Career: I’m constantly reminding myself to stretch, trying to reach a little bit further each time. It’s important to stay within my genius zone thou – the world of Event Production as I absolutely love it (and I’m good at it… it’s my superpower). This is also why I started The Right Up (therightupnow.com). But this year, I’ll be reaching for the stars knowing that some of my best ideas, creations and growth takes place when I push myself through the uncomfortable period.  A time to take on the challenges, it will get hard but that will also make me stronger.

Lifestyle: Home & Travel

Home: My home is my inner kingdom. It’s my safe place, piece of luxury, holds my heart with my husband (Jake) and a place where you don’t need to be perfect. You should see me dance around the living room! Not much rhythm, but it’s fun!

It takes energy to keep my home a place of love, support and honesty.

The front door is usually open to lots of guests throughout the year, both family and friends. At times family stays with us from Australia for up to one month, which I adore and love! If you didn’t know, I’m an Aussie living in LA!

A new challenge I want to give myself, every three months is to reduce the amount of stuff in the home. I want to live a minimalist lifestyle, simplified and uncluttered. A breath of freshness, letting go of the items that no longer resonate.

Travel: All time favorite! Travel will always be on my to-do-list! In fact, I have always integrated my career into travel, planning events across Australia, and now the world!

It seems that the more places I travel, see and experience I realize how big the world really is. There is so much out there, even if I go back to the same place I’m blessed with new experiences. Travel opens my mind, heart and adds perspective on the challenges faced.

I have always kept a bucket list of places I want to go, but this time I added a few short trips, more weekends away and some could even be done in a day from LA. I have Big Bear, Catalina, Palm Springs, Lake Tahoe and Colorado. The list has a combination of girl trips and also time with my husband. Working hard and continuously is my mantra, it’s fast-paced and I always have an ‘on’ attitude. The hustle is real. But switching off the mind, body and soul with smaller trips will help refresh.

Creativity

I love a good story, and it’s an honor to be able to interact with so many world leaders and entrepreneurs around the globe. I have the privilege to work with them behind the scenes and cue them on stage. This lets me hear their personal journeys and stories, their “why”, love and passion, their successes and learnings.  It only inspires me to continue doing what I love and it really makes the harder days, worth it!

Storytelling is unique, a form of creativity and one which I want to expand on more this coming year. Having the ability to craft authentic, interactive, creative and honest stories is on my to-do list as it will be a critical part of my own experience and success.

Family and Friends

Life has a wonderful way of showing us what really matters, my anchor has always been family and friends! I’m an Aussie girl living in LA and have been lucky enough to have maintained strong connections with family and friends back home in Australia and various countries around the world. It doesn’t matter if they are millions of miles away – the love is strong! I feel loved, inspired and connected. One of the best parts about traveling for work means I get to see my family and friends when I’m on the road. I have become a Wanderlust Globetrotter!

Usually, I only have time to catch up post event, as the weeks before an event are always busy. It’s much harder to switch off and enjoy time together. It’s a pretty special feeling to explore the local town with family and friends. I even have friends who I have known since I was a baby, childhood buddies.

Since creating The Right Up, I have expanded my connections around the world, which has me fired up! Being able to motivate, help and cheer others on from the side line has been a great shift and growth for me. I want to continue to connect with strangers, share encouragement and believe in them to follow their dreams! It will only make me stronger as well.

Love

Have you heard of the “Five love languages”, it’s a quiz and it has been a real life saver actually because everybody has their own way of receiving love and giving. This has made a huge difference in the workplace, family, friends and my significant other. It’s worth checking out. I haven’t always taken the time to appreciate that people receive and like to be acknowledged in different ways. I think it’s fascinating to learn, I was rewarding or thanking people in my love language, which wasn’t always aligned to their liking.

It’s easy to get caught up in our own thinking, to-do-list, problem solving and life itself. Usually, when you want to thank someone you have the best intentions to make them feel good but the five love languages allow you to hit the spot first go, saves time and most importantly makes that person feel loved and special. That’s the goal all along!

I’ll be keeping this quiz in my back pocket, thinking through how team members, family, friends and loved ones receive love, it will have a much stronger impact on my relationships. It might be tricky to get everyone to complete the quiz but thinking through the questions will help.

Community

Podcast after podcast – feeling inspired, learning valuable knowledge (love to learn), and courage to take action! The increase of social media has allowed communities and groups to be built. I know I get daily motivation from several entrepreneurs and bloggers. As an individual you build a base of knowledge but it’s through communities that you take new learnings to the next level. Applying the new content to what you already know allows you to come up with something new – it’s all growing and staying educated.

My newest addiction, is The Right Up (therightupnow.com), my side hustle for the events community. A platform where I share my world, learnings, previous experiences and knowledge as a Global Event Producer with each of you. It’s all about Event strategy, Business and my Lifestyle (travel, home, and what I do to relax).

Regardless, of how large your community is, it’s about having 3-4 close people to you. This year is about visualizing your highest self and showing up! Being around people who understand what your doing, share challenges, bounce ideas and rely on someone who you can lean on!

Spirituality

I’m process driven, usually turning to logic to make decisions but this year I’ll be trusting my intuition a little more as it’s equally as important. This involves listening to the heart and be driven by emotions more. You know that voice in the back of your head, it can be quiet but the more you listen it gets louder. It’s a process which will take some time to uncover and trust a little more but it will create truth, magic and flow a message that wouldn’t be forced. We all get self-doubt, it’s part of being human but it’s a matter of peeling back the layers and pushing through the comfort zone. Plus I have found that it’s often right, 2019 will be about listening to that inner voice more.

Self Care: Mind, Body & Soul

Self care is a priority and necessity, not a luxury – this is something that I have learnt and follow well but can always do better. Over the years, I have found adding downtime into my schedule is the only way I can ensure I have rest and recovery time. Even research has shown that majority of our best ideas, dreams, innovations, and solutions are created in a place of rest. There is always growth in this space, and I want to continue to focus on this. Finding ways which allow me to get grounded quickly in an enjoyable way.

I find to set intentions its best to write them down, you feel empowered and aligned within your heart and mind to reach your full potential as it creates more meaning. It makes you a lot more accountable to stay focused. Anything is possible if you have the mindset, will and desire to do it and put in the time!

Share your 2019 intentions in the comments below, I would love to hear them.

I’ve been busy writing blogs and will share them with you bi-weekly, so you don’t miss out please subscribe to the The Right Up mailing list.
